How do I clean my pistol?
Folow instructions below:
Before anything else, ensure your muzzleloader is unloaded.
Remove the breech plugs using a 3/8” thin wall socket
Use a cleaning rod with a tight-fitting bore brush for 12 gauge. Soak a cleaning patch with muzzleloader solvent (formulated for black powder or black powder substitutes) and push it through the bore from breech to muzzle. Hot water and Dawn dish soap work well also. Repeat this process multiple times, using fresh patches each time, until the patches come out clean. You may need to use a copper brush for stubborn fouling.
The breech plug is prone to heavy fouling it can be soaked in muzzle loader solvent. Use a brush or scraper to remove carbon buildup. Ensure the threads are clean for easy reassembly. We recommend a very light coat of lithium type grease be used on the breech plug threads for ease in removal before reassembling the pistol.
Wipe down all external metal surfaces with a clean cloth dampened with solvent or a dedicated gun cleaner.
Once all parts are cleaned, it’s crucial to thoroughly dry everything. Use a clean, dry cloth to wipe down all surfaces. You can also use a hair dryer on a low setting to speed up the drying process. Moisture is the enemy of a muzzleloader.
Apply a light coat of gun oil or a dedicated muzzleloader lubricant to all metal surfaces. This will protect against rust and corrosion. Pay special attention to the bore, breech plug threads.
After reassembly, perform a function check to ensure the firearm is operating correctly. Check the trigger pull, hammer.
Give the entire muzzleloader a final wipe down with a clean cloth to remove any excess oil.
After cleaning the breech plugs may need to be adjusted this can be accomplished by giving them 1/16 of a turn counter- clockwise until you get consistent ignition from your brand of 209 primers.
What holster should I order to fit my pistol?
Diablo Shoulder Rig- left or right
Desperado Drop Leg Left or Right
Diablo Black leather holster
Diablo tan leather holster
If the longer handguard has been installed on the 6-inch Diablo Pistols Desperado Model holsters are needed.
For the 8- and 11-inch pistols (Desperado model)
Desperado Drop Leg Left or Right
Desperado leather holster black
Desperado Leather holster tan.
Shoulder rig holsters will not work with the 8- and 11-inch barreled pistols.
What supplies are needed for the pistol?
A measuring device for loose powder and payload
A ramrod or short ball starter
.209 American Made shotgun primers such as Federal, Winchester, Remington or CCI. European primers are a bit oversized. Cheddite, Rio and Fiocchi brands will not work.
Payload of choice, shot, ball, slugs, or sabots
Overshot wads if shooting shot
Patches if using ball, slugs etc.
Over powder cards if shooting loose powder.
Fiber wads are optional
How do I load the pistol?
Loose powder:carefully measure FFG powder and load into the barrel, then insert the over powder (nitro) card next. The nitro card is made of dense cardboard about 1/8th inch thick. It should fit tight in the bore to prevent hot gases from passing through the shot charge.
Start at edge of the wad and then finish it off by pushing it down onto the powder with the ramrod. Seat the wad firmly on the powder.
The lubed fiber cushion wad is next. (the fiber wad is optional and seldom used)
Measure and pour the desired charge of shot down the barrel.
The over-shot card is last. These are made of light cardboard or heavy paper about 1/16th inch thick. The purpose of the over shot card is to prevent the shot from falling out of the barrel. Push the card down the barrel till it is seated on top of the shot charge. Seat it firmly, but don’t pack it down so hard as to deform the shot pellets.
With the muzzle pointed in a safe direction place the hammer in the half cock position, break the pistol open and insert .209 American made primers into both breech plugs.
Pointing the pistol in a safe direction carefully close the action of the pistol.
As a rule most shotguns will perform very well with an equal volume load. This is easy to accomplish by using the same measure for both shot and powder and not exceeding a total payload weight of 1 ¼ oz
Not to exceed 60 grains of FFG powder and 1 ¼ oz payload
A quick easy way to load the AGC shotgun pistols is by using White Hot powder pellets in .50 cal. 50 gr. An AGC quick load slug and .209 primers.
Drop the pellet into the barrel. Ram the slug over the pellet. Place hammer on half cock, break the pistol open and insert the .209 primers, verify the hammer is on half cock and close the pistol and you are ready to shoot.
The slug can be rammed down directly onto loose powder, no wads required
